Montgomery Hospital Medical Center, originally constructed in 1895, was in desperate need of an interior facelift to its lobby, adjoining corridor and gift shop. Lobby circulation was confusing and lacked focus. Building systems were outdated and in some areas were not working at all. All work had to be designed to operate during construction and within a tight budget.
jBH3 was commissioned to redesign these areas to transform a once dark and out dated lobby into a bright welcoming entrance to the hospital. The design team first focused on centralizing the lobby activities by adding an automatic revolving door on axis with a new centrally located information desk and providing small seating areas along the perimeter. A new lighting scheme now compliments a softer color palette and accentuates a new art collection that includes custom glass pieces designed by the team.
The team was responsible for determining how all construction was to be phased to keep disturbance of patients and visitors to a minimum. jBH3 successfully planned the ground floor to be operational during construction.
